Srinagar: NIT students instructed not to watch IND-PAK Asia Cup in groups; Fine to be imposed if rules broken

It further stated that during Sunday’s match, students should remain in their allotted rooms and not allow other students to enter their rooms to watch the match in groups.

New Delhi: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) located in Srinagar instructed its students not to watch India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday in groups or post anything related to it on social media. The notice was issued by the dean of students’ welfare where the institute administration has asked the students to remain in their concerned rooms during the match.

“Students are aware that a cricket series involving various nations is going on in the Dubai International Stadium. Students are hereby directed to take sports as a game and not create any kind of indiscipline in the institute/hostel,” the notice read.

It further stated that during Sunday’s match, students should remain in their allotted rooms and not allow other students to enter their rooms to watch the match in groups.

“If there is a group of students watching the match in a particular room, then the students to whom that particular room is allotted will be debarred from the institute hostel accommodation and a fine of at least ₹ 5,000 will be imposed on all the students involved,” the NIT said.

They have been instructed to not post any content on social media related to India’s match against their archrival. They have also been instructed not to step out of their hostel rooms during or after the match.

Reportedly, in 2016, a clash happened between outstation students and local students following India’s defeat to the West Indies in the T20 World Cup semi-final. This led to the closure of the institute for days.
