The Surya Kund of Ayodhya, which was neglected like many other places of historical significance in Ayodhya, during previous governments, has sprung to life once again with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts.

Ayodhya: The Surya Kund of Ayodhya, which was neglected like many other places of historical significance in Ayodhya, during previous governments, has sprung to life once again with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts. The Yogi government has renovated the Kund at the cost of Rs 40.95 crore.

Presently, the Surya Kund has become a major center for people’s entertainment, offering health and virtue to people. The developed park here includes various attractions, including laser shows.

Surya Kund is considered a site of great spiritual and historical significance where according to popular belief, the sun once stopped and Ayodhya experienced a month-long day without night.

Bathing in the Kund cures leprosy and skin diseases, one attains eternal virtue. It is believed that during Lord Ram’s coronation, all the gods came to Ayodhya, including the Sun god. The Sun god halted near Darshan Nagar, presently known as Surya Kund, where there is also a temple dedicated to the Sun god. Generations have it that the chariot of the Sun god stopped at this place, and during that time, Ayodhya experienced a month-long absence of sunset. It is said that the construction of the Kund happened because the chariot sank there.

There is also a belief that when sage Charak took bath in this Kund, his leprosy was cured. Therefore, it is said that anyone suffering from leprosy or skin diseases who bathes in this Kund will be cured, and they will attain good health and eternal virtue.
