Tanzania President ‘struggles’ with Santoor, PM Modi extends helping hand (VIDEO)

New Delhi: Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, currently on a visit to India, faced a difficult moment while trying her hands at Santoor, a musical instrument in national capital on Monday. As Tanzanian President sought help of the instrumentalists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened & assisted her in holding the instrument rightly.

In the video, Samia Suluhu Hassan is seen asking for ‘tips’ from the musicians. It’s then PM Modi comes to her ‘rescue’ and lends her stick to play the Santoor. He also ‘tutors’ the Tanzanian President on playing the musical instrument.

Honorary Doctorate for Tanzanian PM

Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan was conferred with Honorary Doctorate by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) today, over role in building strong India-Tanzania ties.

Dr Hassan expressed gratitude for the honour and said that she felt privileged over receiving her first award in a foreign country.

On the occasion, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that it was a matter of pride to confer the the honorary doctorate on Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“I take particular satisfaction in this as an alumnus of this university,” Jaishankar said.

He added that Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan is no stranger to India and is an old friend.

“Though it is our first chance to welcome her as the president of Tanzania, we greet her as an old friend,” Jaishankar said.
