Theft racket busted at IGI: 2 women loaders arrested for luggage theft, gold & bags recovered

According to DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla, the names of the arrested women are Sana Mumtaz and Malti. Sana is a resident of Mirzapur in UP and was working at IGI Airport since June 2020. Whereas, Malti is a resident of Agra, UP. She was working as a loader at the airport since October 2019.

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) police station have arrested two women loaders for stealing passengers’ luggage from the airport premises while on duty, as part of the ground handling team. Following their arrest, police team have also recovered 3 bags of gold jewelery worth Rs 60,000 and other items .

According to DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla, the names of the arrested women are Sana Mumtaz and Malti. Sana is a resident of Mirzapur in UP and was working at IGI Airport since June 2020. Whereas, Malti is a resident of Agra, UP. She was working as a loader at the airport since October 2019.

Accoridng to the police, both Sana & Malti were running the luggage theft business with some co-operation from their associates outside the airport, whom they would transfer the luggage after stealing it from the lot.

The IGI police team keep a constant watch on the activities of loaders & ground handlers. On April 5, a team from IGI police station caught Sana with the help of Vigilance Department of the airline. She had stolen 3 trolley bags from level 4 of IGI airport. With the help of her friend, she brought these bags home.

According to DCP, Sana was strictly interrogated at the police station. She told that she used to get a salary of Rs 20,000 per month. As she was finding it difficult to meet her expenses with low salary, she got into business of lifting of passengers luggage. Sana told that Malti is her roommate.

On April 2, she stole 3 bags and handed them over to Malti outside the airport. who brought them home she told the team of the IGI police station. SHO Yashpal Singh, SI Vinod Kumar, head constable Dayawati and constable Pooja, led by ACP Virendra More, arrested the two women thieves.

From their custody, many valuable items including 10 grams of gold jewelery, trolley bags were recovered by the cops.
