New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday witnessed abrupt scenes as Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi walked out of the Assembly before the National Anthem could be played. This apparently happened on back of growing stand-off between government and state govt led by Stalin’s DMK.
The tussle escalated over Governor allegedly skipping parts of the speech prepared by state government. According to reports, the governor’s original address had references to secularism, mentions of state’s tall leaders including BR Ambedkar, K Kamraj, Annadurai and Karunandihi.
The row escalated after Chief Minister MK Stalin, after making a speech in the House got a resolution passed, which mandated that Governor’s original address, prepared by state govt, be adopted and those skipped or added part be removed from the customary address.
Following this, the Governor left the House in a huff even as Chief Minister MK Stalin was making a speech in the Assembly. National Anthem was also played moments later after Governor had left the House.

The resolution was supported by many parties including its allies Congress, MDMK & Left parties. Chief Minister lashed out at the Governor and accused him of violating the Assembly tradition by skipping parts of the customary speech.
Stalin accused the governor of acting at the behest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and acting as its ‘agent’ to push forward saffron agenda in the state.
Prior to this, Governor RN Ravi had addressed the Assembly for about 50 minutes. In a marathon speech, he spoke about a lot of issues demanding state govt’s immediate attention.
Soon after Governor left the House, the DMK MLAs started raising slogans in the House. Slogans like “Quit Tamil Nadu” reverberated in the House while the MLAs protested against Governor’s act.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also jumped in the row and tweeted, demanding recall of the Governor.
