Undeclared power cuts add to summer woes, UP CM directs Energy Minister & officials for quick restoration

The Chief Minister asked officials to issue clear & strict instructions to all concerned that any deficit or problems in electricity supply to be dealt with immediately.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday night summoned the State Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma and top officials of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) and directed them to ensure that no power outages take place in any part of state.

The Chief Minister was angry over incidents of undeclared power cuts in the state and expressed his displeasure over ‘power shortages’ despite adequate supply of electricity. CM Yogi also asked the Energy Ministry and UPPCL chairman M Devraj to fix feeder-wise accountability.

The Chief Minister asked officials to issue clear & strict instructions to all concerned that any deficit or problems in electricity supply to be dealt with immediately.

“The Chief Minister directed officials that wherever electricity transforms malfunction, either in town or village, they should be immediately replaced,” a statement of UP govt said.

Yogi further directed the officials to purchase power if the current supply doesn’t suffice.

“There should be no power shortage anywhere. If needed, electricity should be purchased and provided to the public,” the statement said, citing Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also suggested that an electric control room be set up in every district to monitor ground situation.

For the unversed, UP government’s power policy has categorized power supply for certain hours in respective areas.

It mandates 24 hours electricity supply to district headquarters, 22 hours to tehsil headquarters, and 18 hours to
rural areas.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that this policy should be put in action as soon as possible.
