UP Govt steps up efforts to combat Covid-19: Sanitisation drive conducted in almost 68,737 revenue villages of the state

New Delhi: In line with the instructions and guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath, the government of Uttar Pradesh has been taking all possible measures to combat and contain the Covid pandemic. One of the initiatives in this direction includes proactive sanitisation in the urban and rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. 0The Department of Urban Developtment and the Panchayati Raj Department in the state have been actively engaged in cleaning and decontamination of cities and villages.

The department of urban development is working round-the-clock on the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath, to curb the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases in the state. The work of sanitising the roads and streets of the cities including the main institutions, markets, hospitals in the state is underway in 17 Nagar Nigams and 48 major Nagar Mahapalikas of the state.

To prevent the spread of Covid-19, everyday cleaning and lifting of garbage and transporting it to the landfill site are being done. On May 4, sanitation work had been done in all 12016 wards of the state local bodies. Disinfection with 1% sodium hypo chloride solution is regularly being carried out in each municipal body by using backpack spray machines, mist guns and large and small tankers along with mist blowers. Several vehicles have been pressed into service for the sanitisation work.

Special arrangements have been made by the corporation to lift bio-medical waste in the areas where citizens are in home isolation so that they do not face any inconvenience. Also, a special team is deployed to monitor crematorium sites cleanliness.

In urban areas, 12016 mohalla surveillance committees are formed with around 58368 members to prevent the spread with the local councillor as the chairman of the committee. Members of these committees include representatives of ASHA (Accredited Social health activist), Civil Defence, RWA and regional personnel. These monitoring committees have been provided with 13513 pulse oximeter, infrared thermometers and adequate amount of masks, gloves and sanitisers.

Special drive to clean around 1 lakh villages

As the number of Covid cases are spiralling, the Uttar Pradesh Government is carrying out rigorous cleanliness campaigns in all the revenue villages of 75 districts in the state. Under the special sanitation drive, cleaning, sanitization and fogging is being carried out at a rapid pace, across all the 58194 Gram Panchayats of UP. As of now, the drive has been successfully conducted in almost 68,737 revenue villages of the state. The drive is aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus and other vector-borne diseases in the in rural Uttar Pradesh.

As per the order of the Chief Minister, the government officials carry out an inspection on daily basis in all the villages to check if the sanitisation, fogging and cleaning work is done properly or not. According to the daily reports, as on May 4, in around 19034 revenue villages of the state, bleaching powder and sodium hypo-chloride was sprayed and fogging was done in almost 9883 revenue villages of the state .

The drive includes cleaning of the drains along with removal of the garbage from the village areas. Fogging is being done and pesticides are also being sprayed as per the requirement to protect the people from getting infected. About 70919 personnel have been engaged in this special campaign. During this time the villagers are also being made aware of cleanliness.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, around 60,569 surveillance committees (nigrani samiti) have been set up in 58,194 gram panchayats to provide relief and timely medical facilities to the villagers against the deadly second wave. These committees make door-to-door visits and check body temperatures through infra-red thermometers, record oxygen level with the help of pulse oximeters and check for other symptoms in people.
