UP to become new defence hub? Rajnath Singh says ‘BrahMos missile will be built in Lucknow’

The Defence Minister also unveiled 180 projects in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow worth Rs 1,700 crore.

New Delhi: In a big development, Uttar Pradesh could well be on its way to emerge as new defence and aerospace hub in the country. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday announced that the next-generation BrahMos missiles will be manufactured in Lucknow.

The Defence Minister further said that the UP chief minister has already estimated that it will lead to generation of about 5,000 employment opportunities.
The supersonic BrahMos missiles are one of the finest weapons in India’s arsenal, built in collaboration with Russian technology. Currently, the BrahMos missiles are being assembled at a facility in Hyderabad.

The UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has already sought 200 acre land from the Yogi government for a facility where the supersonic missiles could be built. A delegation of BrahMos Aerospace also met CM Yogi in this regard on Tuesday.
500 engineers to be engaged, 100 missiles planned in 3 years

According to a UP government press release, the Uttar Pradesh will soon roll out manufacturing of the state-of-the art BrahMos missile.
More than 100 BrahMos missiles are planned to be built in the next three years, for which about 500 engineers and technical people will be directly employed in the BrahMos Production Centre, the press release said.

Rajnath promises PNG gas to every household in Lucknow.

Rajnath Singh also announced extending the PNG gas connection to every household in Lucknow, his Parliamentary constituency.

The Defence Minister also unveiled 180 projects in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow worth Rs 1,700 crore.

While inaugurating several projects in Lucknow, Rajnath Singh said: “We aim to make Lucknow the number one city and all my efforts are dedicated towards the same.”
