New Delhi: Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj was quarantined after his wife Amrita Rawat tested positive for coronavirus. At least 41 members living at his residence were also quarantined. Their samples have been collected and sent for COVID-19 testing.
Maharaj’s wife, Amrita Rawat, was tested for the virus on Saturday after she complained of fever for the last few days.
“Amrita Rawat’s report has come and she has tested positive for coronavirus. She has been admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh. Cabinet minister and his staff have been quarantined,” District Magistrate Ashish Srivastava told ANI.
Amrita Rawat was a minister in the Harish Rawat government.
Will Uttarakhand cabinet be quarantined?
On Friday, the minister attended a cabinet meeting where Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat was also present.
After Saturday’s development, questions are being raised whether all those in the meeting will also be quarantined, with the Opposition Congress terming it as ‘gross negligence’.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand has risen to 749, with 33 more people testing positive.
