Video journalist faces wrath for mocking Raksha Bandhan, TV channel asked to act or face legal action

Tanveer Ali, a video journalist with TV9 Bharatvarsh, poked fun at the Hindu festival while the nation was celebrating Rakhi. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Those who use expletives for sisters are celebrating the festival.”

New Delhi: A video journalist is in the eye of storm for allegedly mocking and ridiculing Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan. He and his organisation TV9 Bharatvarsh are now staring at legal trouble as his offensive comments have infuriated a particular community.

Hindu IT Cell, a volunteer group of concerned Hindus, has sent a legal notice to the TV channel and asked it to file ‘justifiable’ explanation in 7 days, failing which it will initiate legal action against the channel.

Tanveer Ali, a video journalist with TV9 Bharatvarsh, poked fun at the Hindu festival while the nation was celebrating Rakhi. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Those who use expletives for sisters are celebrating the festival.”

The Hindu IT cell claimed that Tanveer Ali maligned the pious festival of Raksha Bandhan, celebrated by the Hindu community across the globe. It also asked the organisation to take strict action against him or be prepared for social media boycott.

Tanveer Ali also faced strong backlash on social media as he derided the pious bond of brother-sister.

When someone took offence and questioned him, he said that he is ‘speaking truth and enlightening the youth’.

Facing social media backlash, Tanveer Ali sought to clarify his stand and said that his remarks were twisted out of context. However, his clarification didn’t cut ice with the Hindu-affiliated group and it said that it will take legal action against the channel.
