Was PM Modi’s security lapse, a planned breach? Role of Punjab police under lens

New Delhi: The security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Punjab’s Firozpur has sent shockwaves across the country. This speaks a lot about flagrant violation of VIP security protocol & throwing the elaborate security into the wind.

Prime Minister remained stranded on the flyover for over 15-20 minutes and was eventually forced to retreat to Delhi.

The security scare is not just shocking but leaves behind numerous questions while bringing role of state police and state government under the cloud.

Before Prime Minister’s visit, the entire area is cordoned off with police keeping a vigil of the route. Reports suggest that the protesters assembled on the road, about just 10-15 minutes before Prime Minister’s convoy was to pass the stretch. The question arises how all of a sudden, a group of protestors assembled there.

Another pertinent point is that Prime Minister’s road or air route is secret and known only to SPG & state police. The highest officials of the police force plan and sanitize the route but how come protestors got a whiff of this route. This has serious questions on the conduct of Punjab police.

According to top Govt sources, the information was probably leaked to farmer groups which led to chaos. Punjab cops are understood to have acted in connivance with the farmers in blocking PM Modi’s convoy.

BJP President JP Nadda also highlighted the negligence & arrogance of Congress’s government in Punjab. He claimed that Chief Minister Channi didn’t even turn up on the phone to address or solve the issue.

Former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh also tore into Channi govt for a total failure of governance in the poll-bound state.

“Punjab Chief Minister and Home Minister are perpetual liars,” Captain told a news channel.

Captain also raised an alarm over PM’s security breach in a border state like Punjab, hinting that such situations offer good opportunity for trouble-makers and asserted that politics must be kept at bay, in matters of security pertaining to the Prime Minister.
