
New Delhi: In a viral video, a mother is seen forcing her 20-month-old child to smoke a cigarette and drink alcohol. As per reports, currently, both the child and the mother are in the custody of the CWC, Child Welfare Committee.
We always strive to keep our children as far away as possible from harmful or intoxicating substances. Even secondhand smoke around a child is considered ‘child abuse’, one should not smoke near children in the same room. However, in a shocking incident reported from the Chencoorie Road area of Silchar, Assam a mother was seen in a video forcing her child to smoke a cigarette and drink alcohol.
According to sources, a local child helpline received a complaint regarding the bizarre incident backed up with the video and photographs. After the complaint police took swift action and arrived at the accused’s residence. On arrival, police detained the woman for interrogation and rescued the child.
The accused, Sangeeta Roy, shockingly neither had remorse nor regrets for her actions. Instead of fear and guilt, the woman openly admitted her actions claiming they were “partying in the house”.
In a statement to media, the Child Helpline unit official stated as soon as they got to know about the horrifying incident of a mother abusing an infant they alerted the police, who took swift action to rescue the child and detain the mother.
Moreover, it’s been reported that the child and mother are still in CWC custody. After a thorough investigation and interrogation, appropriate steps would be taken.
