Video: ‘Not a big deal’ says UPSC aspirant girl, consoles sobbing parents after failing to reach examination center on time

The principal of S.D Adarsh Vidyalaya which was the center of the examination didn’t allow her to attend the Prelims.

New Delhi: An UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) aspirant was denied entry to the examination center as she arrived late. Later, a video of her mother weeping outside the center went viral on social media “Ek Saal Barbaad (A year wasted)”.

On June 16, a video was posted by an ‘X’  user (formerly Twitter) in which a UPSC aspirant was seen getting late for the Civil Service Prelims exam in Gurugram.

As the gates were closed, the principal of S.D Adarsh Vidyalaya which was the center of the examination didn’t allow her to attend the Prelims. Reacting to this, her parents burst out crying while her mother got unconscious.

Surprisingly, instead of feeling dejected, the daughter confidently tried to lift up the spirits of her dad and said, “Dad please drink some water. Stop behaving like this. It is not a huge deal I will reappear for the exam next year. I am still young.”

Netizens React

Meanwhile, some social media users reacted by showing sympathy towards the family while others said that rules are the same for all.

One user said, “Not blaming anyone but this exam requires the most dedication and patience and getting late to the exam center is the last thing one UPSC candidate will do.”

On the other hand, another UPSC aspirant commented “Even though I attended the exam yesterday, they allowed me in after 9 AM too. But in some colleges, it depends on the type of principal present. He allowed candidates till 9:25 AM and closed the gate afterward. He was kind .”

A third comment read, “I was Asst. Supervisor in a UPSC Exam center for the NDA Exam. It is a strict guideline by the UPSC that the gate shall close 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the exam. How the Principal is responsible if he is adhering to guidelines? What if someone else lodges a complaint!”
