West Bengal polls 2021: Bengal DGP Virendra removed by Election Commission

The decision to removed DGP was taken after reviewing the poll preparedness in the state. EC said that compliance of the commission”s order may be done immediately.

New Delhi: In a big breaking development in West Bengal, the Election Commission has ordered removal of West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Virendra. This means the current DGP will no longer be serving during elections.

EC removed DGP Virendra with immediate effect and appointed P Nirajnayan in his place.

The decision was taken after reviewing the poll preparedness in the state. It said a compliance of the commission”s order may be done immediately.

“Kindly inform the commission about the compliance latest by 10.00 am tomorrow (Wednesday),” the letter said.

P Nirajnayan, IPS (RR-1987) be posted as Director General & IGP of West Bengal in place of Shri Virendra, IPS with immediate effect.

West Bengal Assembly elections 2021 will be held in eight phases. The first phase will be conducted on March 27 and the final will be on April 29. The West Bengal election results will be declared on May 2.

BJP worker shot at in Malda

Earlier in the day, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker has been admitted to hospital after he was hit by a bullet in Mothabari. The victim’s brother alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons committed the crime.

Uday Mandal, a 38-year-old BJP worker has sustained bullet injuries in the afternoon today. He is the party in-charge of eight booths in Mothabari constituency in Malda district. He has been admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

Speaking to a news agency, Siben Mandal, the elder brother of the victim said, “I went to the spot after being informed by others. I asked him who did it, he took the name of Chobilal Mandal and other local TMC leaders.”
