New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday nominated Chandigarh University (CU) founder-chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu to Rajya Sabha. A notification by Home Ministry said that Sandhu, one of the country’s leading educationists was being nominated to the Upper House of Parliament.
Sandhu’s nomination was welcomed by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar. He said that country’s leading educationist’s passion towards education & learning will add greatly to the House’s strength.

Who is Satnam Singh Sandhu?
Satnam Singh Sandhu, son of a farmer, is the founder and chancellor of Chandigarh University. Being one of country’s leading educationists, his work & contribution in the field of education transcends boundaries and has earned global admiration & appreciation.
Sandhu is credited with laying the foundation of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) at Landran in Mohali in 2001. This work took a step forward and he went on to establish Chandigarh University in 2012, which a found a place in QS World Rankings 2023, fist among private universities in Asia.
How is Sandhu contributing to people’s cause?
Having seen hurdles & obstacles in early childhood, Sandhu not only struggled hard to create a name for himself but also developed a strong penchant for philanthropy. Today, he provides financial assistance to lakhs of students in pursuing quality education.
