Who was Dr Manohar Joshi, Former Maharashtra CM who died of Cardiac Arrest?

Dr Manohar Joshi was born on 2nd December 1937, he started his career as a teacher and later became an Indian Politician from the state of Maharashtra.

New Delhi: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi passed away after battling with health issues. Dr Manohar Joshi took his last breath in Mumbai. He was rushed to P D Hinduja National Hospital after he complaint of chest pain. He was also a close associate of Shiv Sena Chief Bala Saheb Thackeray. Dr Joshi was also a former Lok Sabha speaker.

Who was Dr Manohar Joshi? 

Dr Manohar Joshi was born on 2nd December 1937, he started his career as a teacher and later became an Indian Politician from the state of Maharashtra. Dr Joshi was born in the Marathi speaking brahmin family of Raigad district in Maharashtra. He did his Master of Arts and LLB from Mumbai University. He got married in 1964 and has 3 children, 2 daughters and one son. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995-1999. He also served as the speaker of Lok Sabha from 2002-2004. He was one of the senior and prominent leader of Shiv Sena and one of the few Indians to be elected to all of the four legislatures. Dr Joshi was associated with the Shiv Sena party for over 40 years.

Dr Joshi’s Political Journey

He began his career after being elected to the Legislative Council from Shiv Sena. He served three terms from 1972-1989. He also served as the Mayor of Mumbai from 1976-1977. He was the first Non-Congress Non-Congress Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was promoted to Lok Sabha in 1999 general elections. He served as the speaker of Lok Sabha from 2002-2004 during the National democratic Alliance.

 

He started the Kohinoor Vocational Institute in order to help youth to offer training as electricians, plumber, repairmen and photographer. To expand the business, he opened other branches in Pune, Nagpur, Nasik etc. He also entered into construction and Capital-Oriented business. He also took the chancellorship of Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth. He died due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 86.
