New Delhi: A NASA astronaut has been reportedly hospitalised for a medical concern after returning from an 8-month voyage aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The agency reported the unfortunate news for the first time on October 25. However, the exact reason for the distress is not yet given.

So far, the space agency has given a positive update about the condition of the astronaut and is hopeful that the astronaut will be able to recover in due time. The Astronaut was travelling with three fellow crew members, including two more Americans and one Russian.
However, the American Space Agency has not disclosed the identity of the astronaut since it might infringe on the individual’s right to privacy. Meanwhile, the other three astronauts were cleared and have returned to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Why did this medical issue arise?
Returning to Earth after months in space is tough on the body. Without gravity, muscles and bones weaken in space, causing problems like weak muscles, low blood pressure, and poor balance when astronauts return.
Vision can blur, and they often feel tired. Doctors help them recover, but it takes weeks for them to fully adjust to Earth’s gravity.

Another plausible reason can be the delay in the return of the Crew-8 back to Earth. The astronauts were originally scheduled to return two months earlier, but their journey was delayed. Technical issues with Boeing’s new Starliner capsule prevented its use for the mission, and Hurricane Milton, followed by rough seas and high winds, further postponed the homecoming.
