‘Will stay MP but quit politics,’ says Babul Supriyo after meet with Amit Shah, JP Nadda

The BJP on Monday managed to persuade Babul Supriyo against resigning as a Lok Sabha member even as the singer-turned-politician insisted that he will no longer be part of active politics.

New Delhi: BJP MP Babul Supriyo, who announced quitting the party as well as politics, had a change of mind on Monday, as he said that he would continue as a lawmaker.

The change of mind came after his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda.

“I want to thank the home minister and the BJP chief. They asked me to stay back. But I am quitting politics. I will continue to fulfill my duties as an MP since its a Constitutional post,” he said.

Babul Supriyo had had kicked off a political storm over his announcement to quit politics.

Speaking to reporters after meeting BJP president J P Nadda, the Asansol MP said he will continue to discharge his constitutional responsibilities as a parliamentarian but withdraw from politics and leave his official residence in the national capital.

He told reporters on Monday that Home Minister Amit Shah and Nadda had spoken to him, and he has taken a final decision after thinking over their suggestions.
