New Delhi: Recording the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases, India on Friday recorded 7,466 fresh cases of novel Coronavirus in last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 1,65,799 cases.

As many as 175 deaths have been recorded in the same period taking the toll to 4,706, surpassing China’s reported toll of 4,638.

India has now overtaken Turkey as the ninth worst-hit country in terms of total number of cases after United States of America, Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Germany.

Maharashtra alone has 60,000 Covid-19 cases

India has witnessed a huge surge in the number of coronavirus cases after restrictions were eased during the lockdown 4.0 that began on May 18. In India, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 59,546 number of virus infections.

Other states which have been attributing to the surge in cases to the influx of people from outside include West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
