Yogi Government to launch two schemes to provide social security to unorganised sector workers

Lucknow: Not only the pace of new cases of COVID-19 has slowed down in Uttar Pradesh, but the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has handled the migrant crisis most adroitly.

The CM is not only making sure to proper all the medical facilities for the COVID patients but he also undertook a detailed review of the current COVID situation and the availability of medical resources across the states quarantine centres amid the influx of migrant workers from Delhi, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

According to the official document released by the UP government on Wednesday, the migrants returning are obligated to a screening test on entering the state. So far, as many as 1,18,754 migrant workers have been screened at bus stations, railway stations and 61,890 migrant workers have been quarantined.

It is to be mentioned that, in April 2020, a large number of workers returned to Uttar Pradesh from Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana, Punjab. Taking cognizance of this situation, the Chief Minister on April 13, 2020, directed to build quarantine centers should where migrants should be kept for 14 days.

Schemes For Workers Of Unorganised Sectors

The Yogi Government is going to implement two schemes through the State Social Security Board to bring the unorganised sector workers into social security.

Under Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, up to Rs 2 lakh will be given in case of death or if a person becomes handicapped. Apart from this, there will be an insurance of 5 lakh rupees for treatment every year. This scheme will be implemented through the state agency Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS).

The unorganised workers will also be registered for the Chief Minister Accident Scheme. In this scheme, if a worker lost his life or gets disabled then maximum financial assistance of 2lakh rupees will be given. The board will pay a premium of Rs 12 per worker to the authorized agency. It will be the responsibility of the agency to provide financial assistance on the basis of the conditions fixed in case of accidental death or disability of the registered worker.

According to labour department officials, in case of death or complete physical disability, loss of both hands, both feet or eyes, the assistance of two lakh rupees will be given. The Department will provide help of Rs 1 lakh if a worker’s one hand, leg, or eye is damaged.

If the permanent disability is more than 50 percent of a person but less than 100 percent, then he will be given the help of Rs 1 lakh. Similarly, Rs 50,000 will be given if the body is damaged between 25 to 50 percent. To avail this scheme, the worker needs to fill the online application on the portal of the Uttar Pradesh State Social Security Board. The offline applications can also be filled at the labour office of the particular district.
