
New Delhi: Face masks have become new normal amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Apart from being the most important measurement against the virus, it has also become fashionable attire for almost everyone. Even makers are trying different designs on the mask so much so embedding gold and silver into the mask giving the rich and privileged to flaunt their status. A businessman from West Bengal South 24 Parganas District has risen to fame after getting him a customised gold mask worth Rs 5.70 lakh.
The mask has been created by Chandan Das, a jewellery maker from Budge Budge, who is popular in making customised designer items. According to News18, a local businessman requested him to make a customised gold mask and within 15 days Das gave him the mask ready weighing 108 grams.
The business wanted to flaunt his gold mask during Durga Puja, however, he was forced to put off after some curious glances from the people. He told the Bengali daily, Anandabazar Patrika that he has a fascination for jewellery. His fondness is visible from the multiple chains on his neck, several rings on his fingers of both hands, and a bracelet on one of his wrists – all made of gold.
Sharing the image, journalist Rituparna Chatterjee wrote, “What is the purpose of this?”

Last year, a business from Maharashtra’s Pune also got himself a customised gold mask worth Rs 2.89 lakh. Shankar Kurade stated that the mask is thin and has minute holes to aid breathing. Though, he was not sure that whether the mask would protect him from coronavirus.
