Bihar: Veterinary doctor called to check on sick animal, forcibly married off [WATCH]

Forced marriage by kidnapping a man and forcibly marrying him off by the girl’s side of kin is a common phenomenon in various parts of Bihar

New Delhi: A veterinary doctor in Bihar’s Begusarai district was called to check on a sick animal, was allegedly abducted by three persons and forcefully married off with a woman on Tuesday.

“He was called around 12pm to check on a sick animal, after which 3 people kidnapped him. Everyone in the house was worried after which we went to the police”, his family was quoted saying by news agency ANI.

After the incident, the father of the vet Subodh Kumar Jha reportedly lodged a complaint with the local police. The incident took place in Pidhauli village which comes under the jurisdiction of Teghra police station.

“The Father of the boy (veterinarian) had given a written complaint to the police station. We’ve asked the SHO and other officials to conduct an investigation into the matter. Strict actions will be taken,” said Yogendra Kumar, SP, Begusarai.

The video of the incident has gone increasing viral on various social media platforms, and has invited widespread condemnations from Netizens.

The forced marriage by kidnapping a man and forcibly marrying him off by the girl’s side of kin is a common phenomenon in various parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, and is generally called ‘Pakadwa Vivah’.

Bachelors with financial and social security are often abducted by the bride’s kin and mostly beaten to submission and get married off at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, a similar instance had appeared from Bihar few years back, wherein a 29-year-old man was thrashed by some persons and forcefully wed to a woman in Patna.

The video of the man named Vinod Kumar, who worked at the Bokaro Steel Plant, begging the Bride’s family to stop the forceful marriage had went viral, drawing massive condemnation form all around.
