Blood-soaked face of Ukrainian teacher who survived Russian attack is the ‘Face of War’

Identified as Olena Kurilo, the teacher after surviving the missile has promised to “do anything” for her motherland, reported The Independent.

New Delhi: After the orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian forces have launched an invasion in Ukraine, blowing up several buildings, streets, and killing and injuring hundreds of civilians. Several photos and videos from the war-torn country are being shared on social media and so was the photo of a Ukrainian teacher whose face was blood-soaked after surviving a Russian missile strike.

The picture of the teacher has become one of the most poignant pictures coming out of the war. Identified as Olena Kurilo, the teacher after surviving the missile has promised to “do anything” for her motherland, reported The Independent. A resident of Kharkiv region’s Chuguev where her home was destroyed in a shell from the Russian forces. The injuries on her face came from the pieces of glasses that flew into her face after her house bombed.

The 52-year-old teacher told The Independent that she was “very lucky” to have survived and must have had a “guardian angel.” She stated that being a teacher who studied history, she had not expected this to happen in her lifetime.

“I will do everything for Ukraine, as much as I can, with as much energy as I have. I will always only be on my motherland’s side,” The Independent quoted her saying. Her scarred, blood-soaked face has surfaced all around the web and is considered to be one of the most telling pictures emerging out of war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier addressed his nation as well as Russians while speaking in Russia. Targeting the Russians, he said, “Listen to the voice of reason. The people of Ukraine want peace, the authorities in Ukraine want peace…We don’t need war.” Further, he stated that if Ukraine was attacked, the country will not be attacking, but defending itself.
