Gujarat girl set to marry herself in India’s first Sologamy; Is Kangana’s ‘Queen’ the inspiration?

Post the wedding, Kshama will also go on a honeymoon, for which she has chosen Goa, where will stay for a couple of weeks

New Delhi: This month, India will witness its first sologamy as 24-year-old Kshama Bindu from Vadodra marries herself on June 11.

Yes, you read it right! In a ‘never witnessed before’ kind of marriage, a young woman from Gujarat will tie knot with herself in a wedding ceremony that will feature all the traditional festivities and guests, except a groom.

“I looked up to see if there has been any such marriage in India, but couldn’t find any. Maybe I am the first one to do so. I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So I decided to marry myself”, Kshama told The Times of India.

“Self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for oneself. It’s also an act of self-acceptance. People marry someone they love. I love myself and hence, this wedding”, she added.

After graduating in sociology from MS University, Kshama works for a private firm outsourcing manpower.

Is this marriage inspired by Kangana’s film ‘Queen’?

Kshama told that she had watched a web series wherein a female character says that ‘every woman wants to be a bride, but not a wife’, and since then the idea of marrying herself came to mind.

She said that perhaps I am the first to set an example of self-love in my country, where marriages are considered sacred.

About the exceptional marriage

This marriage will take place in the temple, while the wedding invitations have already been sent. The Mehndi ceremony is on June 9 and the wedding will take place on June 11 at 5 pm.
