How long you should wait to work out after getting inked

New Delhi: Getting a tattoo is the new trend today. Getting a tattoo is not as simple as it sounds. One has to research proper tattoo parlours and research the rates and qualities. There is an endless variety. It is said that every tattoo has its own meaning behind it.

A person who gets inked for the first time always has mixed feelings. On one hand, the person gets excited by the thought of getting something permanent on the skin on the other he/she gets afraid of the pain.

But if you are a fitness freak and love getting tattooed then here are a few tips:

1. After getting inked tattoo artists generally suggest protecting the skin for 48 hours which can last till 4-6 weeks. This time period is generally suggested to give time to the body to heal.

2. Before promising or starting a heavy workout. It is good to start with a light workout or cardio so that even your body remains active. Just remember to be gentle with yourself if your body is not allowing you to work out then don’t force yourself.

3. Always consider the size and location of your body if you have tattoos on your arms, hands then avoid arm workouts until your tattoo is healed properly 

Exercises which are not recommended 

*Swimming: Going swimming after you had a tattoo can lead to infection. Swimming will expose the open skin of your tattoo to harmful bacteria. 

*Outdoor workouts: Stay away from the sun. Working out in sun can fade or bleach your tattoo. Even tattoo artist recommends protecting the skin for at least 4 weeks.
