Indian-origin Miss World runner-up story of overcoming facial burns, heart defect is gut wrenching

New Delhi: Shree Saini, who became the first Indian-American to have secured herself the runner-up title at the Miss World 2021, is in the news for her hurt-wrenching journey for achieving her dreams.

The 25-year-old dive who hails from Ludhiana, Punjab, was not only subjected to discrimination in her early years but had to overcome a horrifying accident and facial burns.

 Who is Shree Saini?

Shree, who was born in Ludhiana, had migrated to the United States with her parents at a young age. Shree was subjected to racial discrimination in the school wherein she was enrolled in as well as in her dance classes.

Though it was her mother who was a constant support for her throughout the years to get going.

Heart Condition: 

At the age of 12, Shree was diagnosed with a heart condition that led her heart to beat slower than an average person. At a very young age, she had to go through an open heart surgery wherein a pacemaker was inserted to make her heart function normally.

Road accident:

Shree also had to go through a horrifying road accident suffering from extensive facial burns.

While describing the terrible car crash, she had said, ,”I was in a major roll over car accident that left my face with bleeding wounds. I no longer had my face. I couldn’t even recognize myself”.

“I couldn’t even cry because my tears would burn as they would pass down my wounds”.

“I was lucky to have survived my car accident and to be alive. I used that as my anchor thought, to rise up from that difficult time”, she added.

In the renowned beauty event, she was also named the winner under the ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ category.
