Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon: Here is everything you need to know.

New Delhi: This year’s first lunar eclipse will be visible on May 15 and 16 in the western hemisphere countries.  According to the NASA, the lunar eclipse will be partial and stargazers can watch it in South and West Asia, Africa, parts of the Indian Ocean, the entire South American continent, much of North America, and a few Pacific and Atlantic Ocean islands.

Unlike the partial solar eclipse that took place on April 30th in India, this eclipse will also not be visible.

As per NASA,  the lunar eclipse also known as blood moon will begin on May 15 at 10:10 pm EDT and on May 16 at 7:40 am IST.

The full lunar eclipse will be visible completely in South and North American countries, most of West Africa, and a few Middle Eastern countries.

Lunar Eclipse 2022:  For how long will the eclipse last?

It is said that the lunar eclipse will last for almost three hours and 27 minutes, where the moon will be experiencing totality for one hour and 25 minutes.

During the partial lunar eclipse, the stargazers will get to see the red Moon, also known as the ‘Blood Moon.’

Lunar Eclipse 2022: Why does this happen?

The lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon. If NASA is to be believed, the Moon turns reddish hue during the totality period, this happens because, during this period the Moon which remains entirely under the  Earth’s shadow, and the red wavelengths of sunlight fall on the Moon’s surface after passing through the Earth’s atmosphere.
