New Delhi: On the occasion of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s death anniversary today, nation paid tributes to him.

He was a prominent freedom fighter, scholar, poet, journalist and the first Education Minister of India. A Bharat Ratna awardee, his contributions to our country and its Independence is immense.
He was born on November 11, 1888 in Makkah. Azad was fluent in Arabic, Bengali, Hindustani, Persian and English.

In 1992, the great leader was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna. Azad breathed his last on February 22, 1958.
