Meet Dr. Uday Modi, Mumbai’s “Shravan” of the modern era

The number of meals they used to prepare each day increased from 11 to 500 over time.

New Delhi: We occasionally come across tales that give us great hope in addition to a smile. One of them is a programme named “Shravan Tiffin Service.” Dr. Uday Modi founded it with the intention of feeding elderly parents who have been left alone and without a source of food.

The free tiffin service in Bhayandar, Mumbai, is administered by Dr. Uday Modi, popularly known as the “tiffin doctor” by many. He uses alternative medicine, and he began the project when an old couple who couldn’t even afford to buy vada pav visited his clinic. This motivated him to assist them and other struggling families like the couple.

His wife Kalpana, who manages the kitchen where these meals are made, also sees to it that the meals for diabetes patients are made separately, in a different kitchen. The number of meals they used to prepare each day increased from 11 to 500 over time.

Dr. Uday claims that donations are used to cover the costs of running two kitchens, tempos, and staff members such as delivery boys and chapati makers. However, if there is a funding shortfall, the family uses its savings to continue the programme.
