Meet Radhika Gupta: India’s youngest CEO, who rose to top after many rejections

As a result, when Edelweiss MF advertised for a CEO, Radhika was hesitant at first but eventually decided to apply after being urged by her husband.

New Delhi: Edelweiss MF’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Radhika Gupta. She was teased for her ‘crooked neck’ at one point, and at the age of 22, she considered suicide after receiving her seventh job rejection.

Gupta, one of the country’s youngest CEOs, has recounted her amazing story.

“My neck was twisted from birth. If that wasn’t enough, I was always the new kid at school, and my father was a diplomat. Before coming to Nigeria, I lived in Pakistan, New York, and Delhi. They mocked my Indian accent and dubbed me ‘Apu,’ a Simpsons character “she wrote in an article for the web publication Humans of Bombay.

During her school years, the 39-year-old stated she had low self-esteem since she was frequently compared to her mother.

“They made comparisons among me and my mother, who labored at my school. People frequently commented on how terrible I appeared in comparison to her; my self-esteem plummeted “she stated.

Attempted suicide at 22:

At the age of 22, Radhika stated she considered suicide after receiving her seventh employment rejection.

“I said to myself, ‘I’ll leap,’ as I stared out the window.” My friend had requested assistance! She explained, “I became carried right into a psychiatric unit and identified as depressed.”

“They only let me go because I said, ‘I have a job interview – it’s my only shot,'” she continued, adding that she was hired at McKinsey.

Became CEO at 33:

“I was on the correct track,” Radhika remarked. “However, three years later, after surviving the 2008 financial crisis, I desired a change– thus, at the age of 25, I relocated to India and co-founded an asset management firm with my spouse and a friend.”

Edelweiss MF purchased their company a few years later. “I worked my way up the corporate ladder.” “I wanted to raise my hand for opportunities like a saree in a room full of suits,” Radhika remarked.

As a result, when Edelweiss MF advertised for a CEO, Radhika was hesitant at first but eventually decided to apply after being urged by her husband.

Radhika Gupta, who is 33 years old, became one of India’s youngest CEOs a few months later.
