WATCH: Couple falls into sea as rope snaps during parasailing in Diu

Gujarat couple went parasailing off the Nagoa beach in Diu on Sunday, when the rope of their parachute tore, making them fall towards the sea.

New Delhi: A couple was caught unaware and landed in a major soup during a vacation trip to Diu. The couple hailing from Gujarat was left in shock as the rope of their parachute snapped while they were parasailing off the coast of Diu.

The incident was captured on camera and within minutes of its share went viral on social media. Reportedly, Ajit Kathad aged 30, and his wife Sarla Kathad aged 31 went parasailing off the Nagoa beach in Diu on Sunday, when the rope of their parachute tore, making them fall towards the sea.

Luckily, the couple did not suffer any injuries. The duo was wearing life jackets and was soon rescued by the lifeguards present at the beach.

The viral video shows that within one minute of their parasailing ride, the rope that connected the parachute with the powerboat broke, leaving them at risk.

Ajit Kathad’s elder brother, Rakesh who was recording the video from the powerboat, screamed as the couple plunged into the water. “I was recording the video and had no idea what to do when the rope broke,” he said afterward. “I could see my brother and sister-in-law falling from a great height, and I never felt so helpless as I did at that moment.”

The duo was then rescued by the lifeguards of Palms Adventure and Motorsports, the private firm which runs the parasailing service.

Later Rakesh stated that he told the operators that the rope attached to the parachute from the boat looked weak and worn-out. However, the operators assured that nothing would happen and the damaged part of the rope would not make it to the air.

Meanwhile, the owner of Palms Adventure and Motorsports blamed the incident on the strong winds. “This is the first time that an incident like this has happened in the past three years because there were heavy winds on Sunday,” said Mohan Lakshman to Times of India. He also added that the company has well-trained staffs.

However, Ajit Kathad and his family blamed the parasailing company for negligence.

Ajit stated that he and his wife even went to the police station to lodge a complaint, however, returned without filing one. “I went to the police station with the intention to lodge a complaint. But returned without filing a complaint as my family members were still in shock.”
