New Delhi: Nipah virus also known as NiV is a contagious virus that can spread between animals and human beings, which means that this is zoonotic.

It is said that this virus is spread through the Fruit bats.

In India, an alert has been issued by the health department in Kerala regarding the Nipah virus (NiV).

Sometimes, the Nipah virus can cause swelling of the brain, which is also known as encephalitis.

According to Veena George people should avoid eating fruits that have fallen to the ground and bitten by birds. Only fruits which has been washed thoroughly with clean water must be used. He also said that people should be more careful about the bat-infested areas.
