New Delhi: Two cases of Norovirus has been confirmed in Kerala on Sunday. The officials have said that at this point of time there is no need to raise alarm.

The Officials insisted that the Health Department is taking care of the situation and also precautionary measures are taken care accordingly.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the condition of the two children is stable and samples have been collected and tested from the area.

The Norovirus virus can result to vomiting and diarrhoea and spreads through consumption of contaminated food and water, also through direct contact with the infected people.

What is Norovirus?

Norovirus is a viral infection that is most common cause of acute gastroenteritis across the world, said WHO.

According to the World Health Organization, the evidence of norovirus suggests that the infection, similar to the diarrhoea-inducing rotavirus, is associated with intestinal inflammation, malnutrition and may cause long-term morbidity.

“An estimated 685 million cases of norovirus are seen annually, including 200 million cases amongst children under 5. The burden of norovirus is significant; norovirus causes an estimated 200,000 deaths per year, including 50,000 child deaths, primarily impacting low-income countries,” the WHO said.

# Wash your hands regularly and properly with soap and water
# Don’t touch your face every time with your hands
# Keep your surrounding’s clean
# Eat clean and covered food
# Avoid outside food.
#Also,clean all fresh vegetables and  fruits before eating.

Yes, Norovirus can be cured. It basically depends on infected person’s immune system.
