World Art Day 2023: History, Significance & how it is celebrated

Art plays a significant role. It reflects the inner feelings of the person and says a lot of untold stories.

NewDelhi: Art comprises of painting, sculpture, music, dance and many other forms. It is observed on April 15, declared by International Art Association (IAA) to spread awareness about art worldwide.

“Art is good for the health” is the theme of World Art Day 2023.

World Art Day 2023: History

World Art day was first observed in the year 2012 after IAA put forward the proposal during the 17th General Assembly to recognize April 15 as World Art Day to commemorate the renowned artist Leonardo Da Vinci who is considered as the symbol of peace, serenity, and brotherhood. He is known for his incredible artistic work ‘Mona Lisa’, which is considered as the most influential painting in the world.

Art plays a significant role. It reflects the inner feelings of the person and says a lot of untold stories. It is considered as a way of sharing knowledge, creativity, cultural diversity, and innovation. This day gives people an opportunity to reunite, share mutual circumstances and also celebrate the all the colors of life. Art is considered  the most beautiful way to express one’s inner thoughts without saying much. On this day artist from different parts of the world take part in various activities such as debates, cultural events, workshops, and conferences in order to commemorate this day and celebrate their work.

Some of the most celebrated painters and sculptors of the world includes: Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, M.F.Hussain, Amrita Sher-Gill, etc. Their artwork compelled very deep observance, meaning and emotions, which gives people to see things from a variety of perspectives.
