World Asthma Day 2022: Know 5 asanas that will help to get relief from asthma

Yoga is considered to be very effective for asthma patients as it opens the lungs and helps them to breathe better.

New Delhi: The world is celebrating World Asthma Day on May 4. Asthma is a breathing disorder that causes inflammation of the lungs and restricts proper breathing. People suffering from asthma witness symptoms like coughing, tightness in the chest, wheezing, and bronchospasm along with difficulty in breathing. Besides, Covid-19 has made it worse for asthma patients.

Yoga is considered to be very effective for asthma patients as it opens the lungs and helps them to breathe better. However, not all asanas for feasible for asthma patients. On World Asthma Day, take a look at the asanas that can be effective for asthma patients.

Yoga

Sukasana

This asana is a simple pose that can be performed by anyone. The relaxing pose provides ease to asthma patients by focusing on breathing and lung function. Besides, it helps in reducing stress. To perform Sukasana, start by sitting on a yoga mat with cross legs. Now, take the meditation position by bringing your both hands in front of your knees. Close your eyes and take deep breaths. Slowly release your breath. Repeat this deep breathing for at least five minutes.

Ardha Bhujangasana

This asana helps in enhancing breathing and improving spine flexibility. First, you have to lie straight on your stomach. Then, bring your hands in front and place your palm on the floor making an L-shape with your elbow. Now, do light push-ups by keeping your legs intact and just lifting your upper body with the support of your hands.

Badhakonasana

Start by sitting with your legs straight. Now, fold both your legs and bring your feet close to each other making a Namaste position. Press the feet with the help of your palms and move your legs just like a butterfly. Badhakonasana is also known as the butterfly pose that helps in blood stimulation and relieves fatigue by bringing down asthma symptoms.

Shavasana

Also known as corpse pose, Shavasana helps in relieving tension, and stress while stimulating breathing. It is a form of meditation that is done by simply lying on the floor. The trick is not to fall asleep and practice breathing activities by lying straight.

Nadi Shodhan Pranayama

This is mostly a breathing technique. In this, you sit in a relaxed position and control your breathing by breathing in from one nostril and breathing out from another. This helps in the opening of the lungs and relieves asthma.
