World Health Day 2021: How to avoid noon napping, beat sluggishness

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija recently took to Instagram to address the issue of afternoon slump, and suggested ways to confront it.

New Delhi: With the arrival of Summers, one thing that troubles us all at the workplace is the afternoon sluggishness and the urge to take a small nap after lunchtime.

The corporate sector offers no recess after lunch and one is expected to be active and agile all the time. ‘Feeling sleepy’ not only affects the working speed but also lowers your productivity.

So, in order to ward off noon napping, you can resort to these two hacks, as suggested by Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija.

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija recently took to Instagram to address the issue of afternoon slump, and suggested ways to confront it.

Noon sluggishness - sleepy -

“Afternoon slump occurs because of fluctuations in our circadian rhythm. It occurs anywhere between 2pm to 4pm. The body temperature reduces and so does our alertness,” she informs in her Reel.

Here are 2 simple hacks suggested by Pooja Makhija:

1) More protein that carb in your plate

According to Makhija, you should ensure that your lunch plate has protein in abundance. She informs that the portion size of protein should be far larger than the portion size of the carbs in your lunch. This means that quantity of protein (like dals, pulses, legumes, chicken, fish and eggs) should be more than carbs (like rice, roti, idli, bread, noodles, pasta).

2) No tea/coffee/chaach, 45 minutes after lunch

Makhija says that you must not look out for any liquid including tea, coffee or chaach, at least 45 minutes after your lunch.

“Both these steps will ensure that you can say goodbye to afternoon sluggishness,” Makhija says.
