World Heritage Day: 4 famous heritage sites that should be on your list

New Delhi: In the welcoming light of modern technology and building new giant modern structures, we are slipping over our own heritage sites. It is crucial to keep ourselves enrooted with our cultural diversity and heritage. Thus, with the aim of preserving our cultural heritage, April 18 is witnessed as the World Heritage Day.

To focus on the theme, this year it will revolve around “Heritage Changes”. Besides, in 2022 its theme was “Heritage and Climate”.

Meanwhile, there are various historical heritage sites that keeps the ancestral struggles and sacrifices rejuvenated in our minds which becomes intrinsic to preserve the beauty what they left for us to witness.

What are some of the most famous heritage sites?

  1. Hampi

This UNESCO recognized heritage site is located in Karnataka which stands filled with Dravidian style and architecture. It’s one of the most sacred sites for Hindus, which includes Krishna temple, Ganesha temple, Hemakuta temples, and the Lotus Mahal complex, among others.

2. Bodh Gaya

This is the most famous place where Mahatma Buddha attained enlightenment. It’s a pious site for Buddhists with a Mahabodhi temple 50 metres tall. The revered Bodhi Tree, among others, is some of the most important places for the followers of Buddhism.

3. Fatehpur Sikri

This Uttar Pradesh-based heritage site holds its roots from the historical Mughal culture. It was basically named after Akbar’s victory over Chittor. Some other important mughal structures include Salim Chishti’s tomb, and Buland Darwaza, among others, which help people remember the mughal rulings of India.

Odisha based historical site is a beautiful structure to witness with carved miniatures that symbolize our culture. It includes a gigantic chariot, a carved wheel, walls and pillars, all signifying our culture. The chariot is led by horses that too are engraved with ancestral traditions and teachings.
