And thus, we celebrate April 18, as World Heritage Day. The Internationally marked day includes visiting monuments and other sites, writing articles, conducting conferences and discussion sessions, and it is also referred to as International day for Monuments and Sites.
What is the theme for World Heritage 2023?
The day got the UNESCO general conference approval in 1983, marking the significance of protecting the natural heritage. With the aim of sustainable development and cultural conservation, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) suggests a unique theme every year.
Every year, a different theme is chosen for the diversity. This year, the theme is “Heritage Changes.”
On the other hand, last year, World Heritage Day was called “Heritage and Climate” as its 2022 theme.
Tracking the background, it can be said that holding the culture intact was not initially considered internationally, until the First World War, which later led to the formation of UNESCO and the United Nations in general.
