New Delhi: Guwahati International Airport serves as the lifeline for North-Eastern states as it connects the seven N-E states with the mainland and the world. The airport is 12th business airport of the country and handles almost 5.7 million flyers per year.
Over the year, the airport has undergone major expansion drive and recently introduced meet & greet facility in its premises, drawing praise from commuters. However, the road travel to the airport can be extremely painful & excruciating as traffic congestion & snarls often spoil the ‘joyride’.
Khanapara has lately become infamous for heavy traffic jams & chaos and if luck is not on your side, you can even miss your flight.

First-hand experience of commuter
When your journey becomes a major challenge to reach your destination, it makes you sad, tired and leaves you panicky.
While I started off from Shillong to catch a flight from Guwahati airport, the chaotic scenes & traffic snarls at roads left me disappointed & even nervous as some more delay would have costed me my trip to Delhi.
The roads in Khanapara have no proper footpaths, foot-over bridges, traffic lights and proper bus or taxi stands for the public which leads to daily traffic jams.
The traffic condition has been getting worse with the public facing a lot of problem, especially when a 3 half hour journey becomes a journey of 5 hours leaving you frustrated and tensed.
The distance from Shillong (Meghalaya) to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati) usually takes 3 hours by car, but the journey becomes nightmare only after reaching Khanapara.
