New Delhi: Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates are set to feature in their 9th straight World Cup as the New Zealand women’s team announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. For Devine, it will be a golden opportunity for the 35-year-old to win the Women’s ICC T20 World Cup after being runners-up in 2009 and 2010.
Apart from Devine, the squad has a ton of experience in the form of Suzie Bates, Lea Tahuhu, Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green in the mix. Moreover, the squad is bolstered in the pace department with the addition of right-arm medium-fast bowler Rosemary Mair who makes a return to the squad after the missed tour of England due to a back injury.
Jess Kerr, Tahuhu, Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold complete the lineup in the pace department. Coming to the spin department, the White Ferns have an exciting lineup in the form of Leigh Kasperek, Amelia Kerr and Fran Jonas.
Seeing the squad, the head coach of New Zealand’s Women’s Ben Sawyer seemed happy and confident to finally complete the incomplete task from 2009 and 2010. When asked about Suzie and Devine, Sawyer remarked-
Soph and Suze have a huge amount of tournament experience from World Cups to franchise leagues, so we’ll certainly be leaning on that knowledge in what’s going to be a pretty intense competition…
