After Champions Trophy showdown, PCB and BCCI duel over IPL and PSL dates!

After the Champions Trophy debacle that is currently going on behind the closed doors of ICC, BCCI and PCB are at the loggerheads of each other regarding the likely clash of dates between IPL and PSL.

New Delhi: After the Champions Trophy debacle that is currently going on behind the closed doors of ICC, BCCI and PCB are at the loggerheads with each other regarding the likely clash of dates between IPL and PSL. Both boards are currently fighting each other regarding the availability of foreign players for their domestic franchise-based tournament.

According to a recent report from PTI:

The owners want the PCB to give them clarity which players would be available for the PSL if the IPL is also being held at the same time and also about broadcasting schedule…

PSL is normally held in February-March but the next year’s edition has been pushed to the April-May window as Pakistan is hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy in February-March. On the other hand, next year’s IPL is expected to be held from March to May.

According to an anonymous source, there’s a fear that many of the top overseas players may not be available after the IPL mega auction in Saudi Arabia this weekend.

He also said the franchise owners felt that due to some pressing matters, including the hosting of the Champions Trophy early next year, the PCB could put the issues relating to the next PSL edition on the back burner.

What is the India vs Pakistan controversy?

The India vs Pakistan rivalry has become nasty in a heated exchange of words around the issue of the ICC Champions Trophy. The problem started when India decided that it wouldn’t be travelling to Pakistan for the ICC tournament, which is slated to be played in Pakistan in 2025.

According to a report by a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson, the board has confirmed to the leading media outlets of India that ICC has conveyed to them regarding India not travelling to Pakistan for the tournament, which is slated to be played from February 19-March 9 next year.

The PCB has now requested clarification from the ICC after India’s decision not to travel across the border for the Champions Trophy 2025. Interestingly, India has not toured Pakistan since 2008 due to the strained political reasons between the two nations.
