New Delhi: In a recent dangerous development in the tech world, Cupertino-based giant- Apple has issued fresh warnings of a new mercenary-based spyware. The spyware, believed to be modelled on the same algorithms as the Pegasus, is anticipated to spread across 98 countries including India. This is the second spyware attack on iPhone users in a year, the last being sent in April!
Apple devices are usually known for their highly nuanced securities which can save information leaks. However, 2 spyware attacks in a single year could cost the company the trust of millions of iPhone users from around the world. Apple has been facing recurrent spyware threats since 2021 across 150 countries which tarnishes the device security claims of the company.

This could turn detrimental to the company, especially at a time when the company is reeling from the financial side of the business. Moreover, with the launch of new iOS updates, such spyware attacks can act as a major stumbling block for people looking to upgrade to iOS 18.
Users receive strange notification alerts!
The latest threat notification for iOS users read, “Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID…” Apple suspects that these attacks are ‘state sponsored’ and are related to “what you do and who you are?”

However, these outlandish claims of the company are not yet confirmed. But Apple has warned not to dismiss the threats as something fake as the company has “high confidence” in these attacks and believes in them with “absolute certainty.”
So, what can the users do to prevent this spyware from affecting their devices? The company has issued several advisory steps to the users which begin by updating the iOS software to the latest version of 17.5.1. Furthermore, the company asked all iOS users to completely activate all internal security measures as the company looks to eradicate this problem.
