Asia Cup 2023, Super 4, India vs Bangladesh: Tilak Varma makes his ODI debut

Tilak Varma made his T20i debut against West Indies earlier last month.

New Delhi: Team India has handed the southpaw Tilak Varma his maiden ODI cap against Bangladesh in their final Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023.

Tilak Verma made his name first in IPL 2022, where he scored close to 400 runs in a rather depressing season for the Mumbai Indians camp, which finished on the bottom of the points table.

Varma was once again a strong pillar for the Mumbai Indian’s camp in the 2023 IPL, where he scored 343 runs in just 11 innings. He scored a blistering knock of 43 runs in 14 balls but was unable to take his team across the line.

Tilak Varma scored 39 runs off just 22 balls in his T20i debut and proved his hard-hitting prowess to the world.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar had termed Tilak Varma as the future of India nd a complete three-format player. He said, “Rohit Sharma rightly mentioned that he could be an all-format player for India. So now it’s up to him to work that little bit extra, get his fitness going, get a little tighter as far as the technique is concerned and prove Rohit right.”

Tilak got his maiden ODI cap after team India decided to make five changes in their team against Bangladesh to keep their players fresh before the all-important final against the defending champions Sri Lanka in the finals.
