Asia Cup 2023, Super 4: Team India gets early boost against Pakistan; Jasprit Bumrah returns

The pace bowling spearhead flew back to India to attend the birth of his first child.

New Delhi: Team India is going to be a happy bunch ahead of their rematch against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023, as Jasprit Bumrah has joined back the team in Sri Lanka after returning from India.

Bumrah, who returned after an eleven-month hiatus because of a back injury, returned back to action against the Ireland series last month. Bumrah was also the captain of the side and led by example, picking up 4 wickets in 2 matches.

Bumrah, after his scintillating comeback, was named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023. He is also selected in the 15-member squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Interestingly, Bumrah was part of the playing XI that took the field against Pakistan on September 2. But since the second innings of the match was washed out because of rain, he didn’t get a chance to showcase his talents.

However, Bumrah flew back to India before their do-or-die clash against Nepal, to attend the birth of his first child, baby Angad Bumrah with his wife, Sanjana Ganeshan.

The men in blue, even though won the game comfortably by 10 wickets in the rain-curtailed match, must have missed the services of their world-class bowler after watching the Nepalese players bat.

Nepal cricket team, who were bundled out on 104 against the Pakistani team, batted like any big team out there, although they did get a lot of help from the Indian fielders, who dropped five catches and fielded underwhelmingly throughout the match.

Now, India will be looking to gain some momentum going forward into the tournament by getting one over their neighbours and also overcoming the horrors of the Asia Cup 2022, where they were knocked out of Super 4, after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Bumrah’s return will definitely work as a boost for the Indian bowling unit in particular and also the whole team in general because they all know that players with the levels of Bumrah’s calibre can turn the tides of any match on their own.
