New Delhi: The Asiad event 2018 in Jakarta & Palembang (Indonesia) was India’s most successful campaign, till date. The scintillating performance by Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2023, currently underway in China’s Hangzhou, has made this edition country’s most eventful and highest medal-fetching tournament.
The Indian contingent have already won 87 medals, surpassing the 2018 medals tally and are now within a touching distance of breaching the 100 mark.
Though, India is still some distance away from the reaching the magical mark, wrestlers now have the major onus of bringing glory & medals for the nation.
Till last reports, India’s official medal count stood at 88. For reaching the 100 mark, 13 more medals are required.

Here are some bouts, where a medal either gold or silver or bronze is guaranteed for India. This will take the tally to 98
Compound Archery – 3
This event is scheduled for Saturday in both men’s & women’s category. Two Indian players Abhishek Verma and Ojas Pravin Deotale are set to face-off in the final of men’s individual event, thus ensuring 1 gold & 1 silver medal in India’s kitty.
In women’s category, Jyothi Surekha Vennam will go for a medal hunt in the finals. A loss or win, in any scenario, she will win a medal for the country.
Kabaddi – 2
Indian Men & Women’s teams, both have entered semis and both are entitled to have a medal, as there are no bronze medal play-offs in Kabaddi.
Bridge – 1
This is another sport with a guaranteed medal. Indian team will challenge Hong Kong in final and hence assured of medal, even in case of loss.
Men’s Hockey – 1
Final contest with Japanese team means the team will lay claim over medal, either gold or silver. Victory will make Team India qualify for Olympics.
Badminton – 1
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are in all likelyhood to get a bronze medal each. They will face Malaysian pair in semifinal match.
Men’s Cricket – 1
Indian men team gave a big drubbing to Bangladesh to sail into finals. Now, the final contest will show – whether they fetch gold or silver.
Sepaktakraw – 1
The women’s regu team are guaranteed of at least a bronze medal.
Taking into account all above guaranteed medals, the tally would reach 98, still bereft of magical numbers by 2.
There are 8 disciplines, where Indian contingent may or not fetch medals. In best scenario, a maximum of 8 medals are possible if team plays well.
Medal winning events could be Antim Panghal & Mansi’s bout, Aditi Swami’s match in Archery, Chess & women’s hockey.
In the 2018 Asian Games, the Indian contingent ‘s medals tally touched 70 mark, including 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze.
