Dhoni’s lap of honour with ice pack around his knee makes fans emotional, how netizens reacted

Dhoni & company took a lap of honour at the Chepauk stadium to thank the fans for turning up in large numbers for the last league match. He made it a point to take a stroll through the stadium despite pain and thank them personally.

New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD), the skipper of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took a lap of honour at Chepauk stadium after the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), amid wide speculations that this was his last outing in the cricketing extravaganza.

While the cricketing legend marshaled his troops at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, the atmosphere turned electric and highly emotional. While there were loud chants of Dhoni, Dhoni, many got a hint of his cricketing career coming to an end.


Echoing a similar sentiment, former batting legend Sunil Gavaskar also came rushing down to get an autograph from MSD. He said that players like MSD come just once in a century. Dhoni obliged him by giving an autograph. He also signed KKR’s Rinku Singh’s jersey for brilliant knock in the KKR-CSK match held last night. Though, KKR outperformed CSK in the last league match, Rinku’s heroics got acknowledged & admired by MSD.

However, what caught everyone’s attention was Dhoni’s knee, which had an icepack tied to it. Many took to Twitter to express their pain over watching their favourite cricketer ‘retire’ in injured form.

Dhoni’s knee injury happened, a month ago

Dhoni suffered a knee injury, a month ago, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had revealed. He said that MSD is facing ‘hindrance in movement’ due to leg injury. However, Dhoni didn’t let it impact his game and his played his game with full forced & fierce.

Days ago, former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan also commented on Dhoni’s injury and expressed sorrow.

The 38-year-old Pathan wrote on Twitter, “Heartbroken to see Dhoni limping between the wickets. I have seen him running like a leopard.”
