‘Frankly, I don’t even know what to say…’ Abhinav Bindra gives a clean cheat to the LAW! in Vinesh Phogat case

Abhinav Bindra believes that rules are integral to the smooth functioning of any sport and need to be followed till the last letter.

Vinesh Phogat

New Delhi: The Vinesh Phogat controversy has shaken an entire nation as everyone is in utter disbelief that a wrestler is stripped of the opportunity of winning a medal. In this tough time for the wrestler, people have expressed various opinions both for and against the wrestler.

However, none could deny the psychological trauma that Vinesh is going through in her tough times where she was just one step away from a memorable gold. In her angst and desperation, the Haryanvi wrestler decided to bid her farewell to her favourite game of ‘Kushti’.

Phogat’s case is currently under judicial consideration by the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS). Although the matter is very critical and crucial from both India’s point of view and the wrestler’s point of view, former Olympian Abhinav Bindra has come out with some strong opinions on the matter.

Even though these may sound cruel, Bindra thinks that any sport is guarded under a certain set of rules that make the sport transient for everyone. Naturally, Bindra believes that rules are integral to the smooth functioning of any sport and need to be followed till the last letter.

In a recent interview with India Today Bindra was quoted “It’s an incredibly tough situation. Frankly, I don’t even know what to say. I mean the rules are very clear — where you draw a line. Sport is always governed by the rules…”

Vinesh has appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) for a final verdict on this hiatus and even though Abhinav is keeping his fingers crossed, the former Olympian also remains baffled in the entire direction where the case is heading.

When can we expect the final verdict from the CAS?

According to some sources, it is believed that the official statement will come on the 11th of August at 6:00 PM. However, many sources have claimed that the official statement will be made public only on the 13th of August i.e. 2 days after the Paris Olympics is concluded.
