‘He has not led normal childhood…’: Sachin Tendulkar opens up on son Arjun’s century on Ranji Trophy debut

At the event, Sachin said that Arjun has not had a ‘normal childhood’ and that being the son of a successful cricketer is not easy.

New Delhi: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, at an event organised by Infosys, opened up about his son Arjun Tendulkar’s maiden first-class century. Arjun joined his father in the list of scoring a century on his Ranji Trophy debut and made his mark for Goa. Arjun scored a 207-ball-120 and Sachin spoke about being a sportsperson’s son.

At the event, Sachin said that Arjun has not had a ‘normal childhood’ and that being the son of a successful cricketer is not easy. He said that this was the reason he asked the media to let his son fall in love with the game. He asked everyone to not put pressure on him and that he, like his parents, have given Arjun the freedom to express himself. He also said that with encouragement and support he has always told Arjun that it will be challenging.

Arjun scored a century playing for Goa against Rajasthan as his team began their Ranji Trophy campaign. He also hit 16 fours and two sixes in the inning. On the other, Sachin, at the age of 15, scored an unbeaten hundred against Gujarat on his debut.

In the game, Suyash Prabhudessai scored a double ton and laid a 221-run partnership with Arjun Tendulkar. Goa scored a total of 547/9 before declaring and Rajasthan has been dismissed for 456. Yash Kothari with 96 off 93 has been the highest scorer for Rajasthan with contributions from Mahipal Lomror and Manav Suthar. Arjun Tendulkar delivered an all-round performance and picked three wickets while his teammate Mohit Redkar took a five-wicket haul.
