ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Here’s how the prize money of 125 cr. will be split among the players and support staff…

According to the decision taken by the BCCI, each player of the 15-member squad will receive 5 cr while the support staff will receive 2.5 cr each.

New Delhi: India ended the 11-year wait for an ICC trophy as the men in blue were crowned champions of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Barbados. Subsequently, the BCCI decided to reward the entire team- both players and support staff a whopping 125 crore will be split amongst 42 people.

According to the decision taken by the board, each player of the 15-member squad will receive 5 cr. Head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will all receive 2.5 cr each. According to sources, a sum of 1 cr is also promised to the selection committee of 5 members, including chairman Ajit Agarkar.

Furthermore, the backroom staff has also been pledged a reward of 2 cr individually. This list includes the 3 physios, the 3 throwdown specialists, 2 masseurs as well as the strength and conditioning coaches. Lastly, the travelling reserves Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed will also be given 1 cr each.

“As far as Rs 125 crore is concerned…”- BCCI secretary Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has come out in the media and assured everyone that even though there is a large contingent that went to Barbados, the prize money will be enough to cover every player. Alongside the prize money of the BCCI, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde has also pledged 11 cr for the Indian team.

BCCI has a longstanding history of rewarding its players handsomely. Last time when the Indian team won the ICC Champions Trophy, BCCI announced a prize money of 1 cr for each player. In 2011 when India won the ODI World Cup, each player received 2 cr.

BCCI had also announced cumulative prize money of 12 cr back in the inaugural World Cup of 2007 for the entire team. Interestingly, during India’s maiden World Cup win in 1983, the BCCI didn’t have any funds to reward the players. To resolve the situation, the Board approached the late Lata Mangeshkar who agreed to a charity concert to raise funds for the champions.
