New Delhi: It seems the controversy maze around India’s win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is not ending anytime soon. India completed a memorable victory over South Africa as they ended their 11-year wait for the next ICC trophy. However, the fire of controversy is not put to rest as one after another controversy arises around India’s win.
In the last few hours, social media was buzzing with the sensational catch of Suryakumar Yadav in the boundary ropes which led to the dismissal of David Miller. Many people believe that the catch proved to be the turning point for India as they clawed their way back into the game. Needing 16 runs from the final over, South Africa had its most dynamic and experienced batsman, David Miller on the crease.

The southpaw needed a big hit over the boundary rope to even the odds for his team. Miller hit a wide full toss off Hardik towards long-off. The hit was almost a near-perfect attempt towards the boundary rope for a six. However, Surya’s golden arm pulled off one of the best catches of the WC as the Mumbaikar first went outside the boundary rope and then came back to complete the catch.

In the long hiatus that ensured the completion of the catch, social media erupted in a plethora of emotions as people took sides. Some users felt that the catch was completed and judged to perfection. However, many people on social media think that the boundary cushion was pushed outside deliberately during the second innings to give the fielding side an unfair advantage.

ICC quashed the allegations as baseless as the boundary cushion was outside in the first innings as well. When asked about the controversy, Surya remarked “I am just grateful to be in that moment to do something special for the country…god’s plan it was.“
